My First Evening Gown

This was my first evening gown, and I think I was about 14 years old in this picture........the gown was for a parade, which I was chosen as a Princess for the Homecoming that year. It was a pale yellow, and with my olive complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair, it really set me off..........

Me As A Child

I believe this was my second or third grade picture, I was so proud of my new ring, that I wanted it in the picture

I think I was about a year and a half or two here........it's one of my first portraits.

Mamaw

This was taken in 1980 when Ashley, was about a year old. Martha Selena(Gibbs) Holder, was my grandmother and the one who took me as a baby and raised me, like I was her own.

Keep Medicare Fair.......

The American people have won a small victory, with the help of several organizations, like AARP people who sent over 1 million messages to Congress and The White House, demanding that they keep Medicare fair! Congress acted – with enough votes to even override a Presidential Veto. Trumping a presidential veto is a huge lift. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of lobbying, and a remarkable million online messages from you.I’m ecstatic that we were able to Keep Medicare Fair.
The bill that passed will:

Ensure that Medicare patients continue to have access to care;
Improve prevention coverage and services;
Improve low-income protections; and
Provide improved coverage for mental health services.

If the Medicare bill proved anything, it’s that Washington does listen when enough people – in this case 1 million people! The usual partisan squabbling is stalling progress on the issues that matter in the lives of American families. Our representatives need to stop working against each other and start working for us. We need to build on the momentum this critical election year and demand comprehensive, bipartisan health care reform. Stand up America and fight for what we deserve, it's our country and government, it should work for us.

Tuesday Scripture

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
Matthew 14:14
This scripture is what all of us need to be the best we can be and we know that he fed and healed the sick...........with 7 seven fishes and loaves of bread.

The Last Child

It was a day, that changed a few things in my life. Mainly, I was older and didn't think about having anymore children, but then I had just married another man and he was all up in the subject.
I guess at his age, he just wanted to know he "still could". Well, I had to really talk to myself about this one and ask myself if I wanted to go back into the mess of having and taking care of a "baby"!
Heck no, I thought to myself...........there's the getting up every few hours the first month or so, "Diapers", bottles or breast feeding, getting thrown up on, the crying.........oh heck no! I knew that was just half of it and I wasn't ready to do it all over again, since there had already been four times I had done this thing and finally I was out of it.........and free ! At 33 years old, it's time to let it go and enjoy the rest of your life, or so I thought.
That's not what happened............he finally talked me into it and against my better judgment, I agreed and stopped taking birth control pills. Hoping against hope that it wouldn't happen.........but knowing that I was too fertile and I was just batting a 1000 on hopes.
Sure enough 2 years into the marriage, it happened and I was telling myself...........self, it's too late, now.......you can't turn back.......so, get ready, because the time has arrived.
I went through all the necessary steps, and trips to the clinic, and was doing well. About eight months later, little pin like pains, started being an aggravation almost everyday, for about a week. So, I got tired of them and took some laxative.............well, she arrived about 4:49pm on a cold rain mixed with sleet, day in February.........all 5lbs. & 4ozs. of her. Of course this made her a "premie", and they put her in the neo-natal unit, to watch...just in case...........
Since I was having my tubes tied the next day, I only got to see her when she was born........and it was the third day, before she knew she had a mom. The nurses joked that they knew she had a "dad", but was beginning to wonder where the Mom was.
We brought her home on the 4th day of her life, and you could have carried her in your hands, she seemed so little. Almost the size of a good baking hen.
Some how, some way..........we made it.........and she's all grown up now....the picture above is her with her spouse....She'll be 30 years old in February..........so you know how old that makes me.........!

Well, I guess that’s ok, but it would be nice if they’d give us something a little more creditable to announce how women are. We are so mcuh more than “teabags”. Yet, I suppose the strength part can suffice for how strong we are or can be. Do you girls really think this is a good comparison? I think it’s a make do, but then right now, there isn’t anything else to throw in the pot. If you think you can come up with a better, idea about us women and how strong we are, then go for it. Leave me a comment and we’ll make a post about it. So, come on with it, let me have your best shot.

A Sunday Scripture

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts, and minds through Christ Jesus.

My Bad boy

I have this cat who thinks he runs the place and now a stray has take up residence with us in the yard. He's always sitting out back directly in front of the back door so, I can see him patiently waiting for his morning meal. I'll have to get a picture of him to put here, but as of now here is the bad boy, the the birds chase.
